This class will introduce the experienced dispatcher to Crisis Communications and provide the tools to be prepared for natural or man-made disasters, tactical situations, or any large scale events.
Day One: Students will discuss and learn the qualities of a tactical dispatcher and the vigorous requirements of this special assignment; students will evaluate the different types of situations that the Tactical Dispatch Unit (TDU) could be utilized for; the importance of Incident Command Sytem (ICS), emergency management and the Continuity of Operation Plan (COOP).
Day Two: Students will focus on group activities and scenarios. Course participants will also discuss the stress that this additional responsibility can bring upon them and the after-care that may be needed when handling crisis communication incidents. Class participation is crucial during this phase of training.
Day Three: Practical Application Day: Students will fully engage in a tactical or disaster drill in which command or mobile command resources will be utilized. Practical examination of learned skills and abilities will be evaluated in the drill, and completion of final test and class evaluations will be conducted.
Who Should Attend?
This course is for public safety dispatchers who have a minimum of five years experience and are recommended by their department administration. Validation of service experience and letter of recommendation is required at time of registration.
Applicants are also required to have completed Introduction to Incident Command System (ICS 100) and Introduction to National Incident Management System (ICS 700). Certificates of completion should be electronically attached to the course registration upon application.
